Thank you to all who helped make our No Cost Clothing event (Aug 29/30) so successful this year! It was a great way to start us out in service to the community. The costs to run this event were minimal - a 100ft clothesline rope and 24 xl hd clear plastic bags for the cleanup afterwards. We happened to find $50 donation at back of collection van which was used as a deposit on the town sign and later to cover those expenses. Yay. Herb McKelvey also donated $5 toward the lions club for this project to me at my work.
A community member called to suggest we consider updating the signs at the north and south entrance to town. The current signs read: Magrath Lions Club and Churches Welcome You. At the south entrance, all the church name plaques are missing. At the north entrance, it reads "[blank], L.D.S., Lutheran, United". As the Lutheran church has been sold to the Mennonite community that plaque could be updated or just added. The metal circle 'Lions' symbol/sign at top of each is starting to show wear and should be replaced. The metal standard itself could use a little paint but is otherwise in great shape. I propose we work on this for October.
November is the Operation Christmas Box collection drive .. something we need to gear up for - this year our drive is the week ending Wed Nov 19 (we deliver what we have collected to Raymond on Thu 20 *revised).
December brings us to the 10th Annual Hometown Christmas late night shopping event right here in Magrath. This event is held annually on the first Thu evening following US Thanksgiving .. which I calculate to be Thu 4 Dec 2014.
In other Lion news: Lion Tracie welcomed a new grand-daughter into Magrath (Olivia) last week. Congratulations! October birthdays will include Lions Roger, Shauna, Devar and Deanna. Hope I don't miss anyone.
And one more item: We still are getting people dropping off glasses to donate. We need to consider where to place the collection boxes. Thanks to all.
p.s. Don't forget that dues for 2014/15 are now owing ($75 per lion or $112.50 per couple for the 'year').
