Happy Thanksgiving week and greetings to all .. we have scheduled a club get together for Thu 16 Oct 2014 6:30pm at the Davies to celebrate Fall Birthdays for Lions Roger, Shauna, Devar and Deanna and .. (hope I don't miss anyone). This will be our first non-project event for the season. Hope to see you all there. We plan to have cake ..
The September Lions Club Afternoon of Service at the original Lions Playground (Sat 27 Sep 2014 from 1-4pm) went quite well. We did a great job cleaning up the playground there! A little swing repair, lots of painting, removal of weeds in play area gravel, final re-installation of some shade picnic tables parts - those final pesky 4 yellow pieces were finally successfully installed there, cleaning of equipment and general tree trimming and gardening completed. The Smiths brought in ringers from England to help out. The Whites hauled all the trimmed branches away for us and we even came back the following Monday to finish up a little more painting.
To do: Fence repairs (need to hire this out as we cannot find the correct parts) and Teeter Totter seats (plan to hire this out as well .. should not be too hard to replace with longer lasting 2x6 vs plywood). Future plans: need gravel under swings and teeter totters and maybe tire bumpers in ground). Noted a minor problem at the Fishpond Playground - some white paint has appeared in small spot on west side 'rain' feature. Will try to remediate. Some landscaping need completion over there as well if time permits.
The October Project is gearing up .. replace the Welcome to Magrath signage at north and south highway entrances to Magrath. It may take some time to get them made, but they should look nicer (much nicer than the blank spots on sign south :)
November is the Operation Christmas Box collection drive .. something we need to start advertising for soon. Talked to the new contact in Raymond and adjusted the drive dates to conform to their drop off schedule. This year our drive is the week ending Wed Nov 19 (we deliver what we have collected to Raymond on Thu 20 *revised).
